Andhra Pradesh holds biggest tribal fair in Asia

POPULARLY KNOWN as the ‘Southern Kumbhamela’, the ‘Sammakka – Saralamma Jatara’, a hill festival of Andhra Pradesh, got underway on February 20, 2008. This is the biggest tribal fair witnessed in Asia. The government has declared it a ‘state festival’. The Jatara got underway at Medaram, Warangal district, Andhra Pradesh. A four-day festival, it is held every two years. This year, the government anticipated that approximately 80,00,000 people would attend the Jatara and made arrangements accordingly, to host them.
